Yellow rice

This yellow rice is served as a side dish. The yellow color comes from turmeric (curcuma), sometimes I used fresh curcuma, but this time I used turmeric powder. I added cinnamon, clove and cardamom during cooking for a perfect flavor. I used basmati rice to this recipe, you can also use other rice like, jasmine rice or wild rice with 1:2 ( 1 cup water : 2 cups water) composition.

  • 1 cup basmati or jasmine rice, washed
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 5 cardamom seeds
  • 5 pieces cloves


  1. Combine all ingredients in a pot. Bring to boil. Reduce the heat to medium.
  2. Cook abut 15-20 minutes until the liquid absorbed. Remove from the heat.
  3. Stir with fork, remove the cinnamon stick, cardamom seeds and the cloves.
  4. Serve warm.
