After U.S.A trip that we’ve made on January this year, I’m became bagels fan.  I have tried several bagel recipes, some of them was failed :-), however, I still keep trying to make bagels. This time I made sesame bagels, and succeed! that’s why I’ll share the recipe. I’ve eaten this sesame bagels for breakfast. My husband has eaten 4 pieces in 2 hours. You can serve the bagels with cream cheese. What I did, I made bagel sandwich, I cut half the bagel, spread with hummus, add sliced avocado and tomato. That was yummy lunch.

Tips: It’s fine to freeze unbaked bagels. Pre-cool the blanched dough pieces on a board , keep in the refrigerator for 1 hour and then fill in freezer bags, and put on freezer. If you need something to eat for brunch, put on trays the frozen bagels and bake in preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes at 180 ° C.

Sesame Bagels


  • 500g flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 350ml milk
  • 1 cube (42g) fresh yeast
  • -------------------------------------
  • 1 liter water for boiling
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons natron / baking soda
  • --------------------------------------
  • 4 tablespoons sesame seeds


  1. Place flour and salt in a bowl. Heat the milk with low heat until warm, dissolve the yeast and 1 tablespoon sugar in it and pour into flour-mixture, combine well.
  2. Sprinkle the dough mixture with some flour, knead for 5-10 minutes in floured surface, make a ball form,put in a bowl and cover with damp cloth, put in a warm place for one hour.
  3. Preheat the oven to 200 ° C. Cover sheets with parchment paper. Divide the dough into ten /twelve pieces, divide and form like a ball. With a wooden spoon handle / finger, center drill a hole in each ball and extend this to 2cm (make donut-form).
  4. Bring water to a boil in a saucepan with 2 tablespoons sugar and the baking soda.
  5. Blanch the bagels for about 30 seconds until they puff up slightly.
  6. Lift out with a slotted spoon and put some distance on the sheets.
  7. Sprinkle the bagels with the sesame seeds and bake in the oven for 15-18 minutes until golden brown. Cool on a wire rack.
