Red Currant Poppy Seeds Pancakes

I love pancakes!, I always ate pancakes for breakfast, normally I made pancakes with different kind of fruit mixtures. For example, pancakes that I’ve ever make ; Raspberry Red Currant Pancakes, Whole Wheat Banana Pancake and Chocolate Orange Pancakes.

This time I’ll post red currant poppy seeds pancakes served with red currant sauce.

This recipe inspired by  by Strawberry Lemon Poppy Seeds Pancakes. I just substitute the strawberry with red currant.

Red Currant Poppy Seeds Pancakes


  • Pancake Batter:
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon poppy seeds
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup red currants, stemmed, washed


  1. Prepare the pancakes batter; In a large bowl combine flour, poppy seeds, baking powder and salt and whisk until well mixed.
  2. Add buttermilk and egg and whisk until smooth. Pour dry ingredients (flour mixture).
  3. Whisk all ingredients. Gently stir in the red currants.
  4. Heat large nonstick pan or skillet over medium-low heat.
  5. Pour 1/4 cup batter onto heated pan or skillet. When edges begin to look dry and bubbles form and burst in the batter, use a large spatula to flip pancake. Cook 1-2 minutes longer. Repeat with remaining batter.
  6. Serve warm with red currant sauce and powdered sugar if desired.
