Mashed potato


Mashed potato is Germans favorite dish, because the potatoes are their main dish, different in Asian country, like Indonesia, where I come from, we eat rice as main dish. There are many ways to cook potatoes, boiled, deep-fried, pan-fried or grilled. In Germany, mashed potato known as “Kartoffelpüree” or “Kartoffelbrei”. It is a dish prepared by mashing boiled potatoes. You can season the mashed potatoes with anything you like, for example, I added milk, butter, salt, pepper, nutmeg and cayenne pepper. People eat mashed potato as side dish for meat, fish or chicken main dish.


Mashed potato


  • 1,5 kg Potatoes
  • 1,5 Liter Water
  • 1 Tablespoon Salt
  • Seasoning:
  • 200g Butter
  • 50ml Milk
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Pepper
  • ½ teaspoon Nutmeg powder
  • Garnish: Cayenne pepper powder


  1. Peel the potatoes. Wash and slice thinly.
  2. Prepare a big pan. Boil water. Add the sliced potatoes. Boil 20-25 minutes.
  3. Drain (remove the water), Mash the potatoes with potato masher.
  4. Add butter and milk. Season with salt, pepper and nutmeg powder. Mix until smooth consistence.
  5. Garnish with cayenne pepper.
