Homemade Apple Sauce

Apple sauce is apple purée flavoring with sugar and spices.
It is made by cooked the apples with water, you can use peeled or unpeeled apples, you can substitute sugar with honey,
commonly spices with cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves.
In Germany apple sauce, a.k.a Apfelmus or Apfelbrei is very popular, especially on winter.
It is ready to buy in supermarket, people eat it together with pancake or mix it with cereal.
This recipe is for small portion, since only two of us at home (my husband and I).
You can make double portion of it. It is perfect for an accompaniment to a main course or desserts.
I’ve made Apple Tiramisu by using apple sauce as one of the ingredients.

Homemade Apple Sauce
  • 500g Apples (about 4 apples)
  • 200ml Water
  • 1 piece Anise
  • 1 stick Cinnamon
  • 8 pieces Cloves
  • 2 Tablespoons Sugar
  1. wash apples and cut slice (keep the skin, don't peel), take out the seeds.
  2. put the apples into a pot, add water.
  3. prepare sugar, anise, cloves, and cinnamon stick.
  4. add into the pot.
  5. cook about 10 minutes until the the apples have soft consistency.
  6. remove the anise, cloves and cinnamon stick from the pot and blend it.
  7. put it in a jar, keep in refrigerator.
