Green Peas Pulao

Pulao  also known as pilaf/pilav/pilau is a dish in which rice is cooked in a seasoned broth. The rice may also attain its brown color by being stirred with bits of cooked onion, as well as a large mix of spices. It may also contain meat, fish or vegetable.

I know this kind of dish since I was working at Indian restaurant in Jakarta-Indonesia. Indian People love to eat pulao combine with another dishes. As you know,  if four person sitting in one table,  they ordered many different types of foods and serve in the middle of the table and share the foods.

I’ve made this green peas pulao few days ago for dinner, it was really good. Serve it with yogurt and it would be perfect. You could add meat or fish if you like. This recipe inspired by Monsoonspice.com with Palak-Methi Pulao.

Green Peas Pulao

Ingredients:

  • 150g basmati rice
  • 150g frozen green peas
  • 100ml vegetable broth
  • 400ml coconut milk
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 big green chilies, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons cumin seeds
  • 1 tablespoon garam masala
  • 1 anise
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander leaves
  • 2cm fresh ginger, crushed
  • 1 bay leaf
  • salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • additional: yogurt

Instructions:

  1. Wash the rice.
  2. Prepare a pot, heat oil, fry chopped onion, add cumin seeds, garam masala, anise and sliced green chilies. Add rice, stir well.
  3. Add vegetable broth and coconut milk into a pot.
  4. Add green peas, crushed ginger, bay leaf and coriander leaves.
  5. Cover the lid. Cook for 15-20 minutes with medium heat.
  6. Serve warm.
